Rooftop landscapes represent unique opportunities and challenges for Landscape Architects. At M Street, Thomas Rengstorf Associates was met with the challenge of landscaping the roof area, creating exterior gathering spaces, residential garden areas and a play area for the canine residents of the building. Plantings were carefully selected that took advantage of the exposed nature of the rooftop. Ornamental grasses and plants that respond to the wind were selected for this planting area, to recall the seacoast dune grass spirit.
